Additionally, receive a class overview document with relevant links and notes AND you’ll be invited to join the course Facebook group to engage with me as well as others taking the full course and classes.

Classes are every Friday at 7pm in January and February 2021 (starting Jan 8th) Can’t make a class? Don’t worry! Classes are recorded and uploaded to stream at your convenience! You can watch the whole thing on your own schedule at your own pace!

Week 1 - Singing 101:

January 8th at 7PM – Learn the terms, identify your vocal habits and establish goals for your voice.

Class Description:

Learn the terms and lingo that will be used for the rest of the course! In this class you will come to understand the voice as an instrument and get the know the three vocal staples, including the controllable elements of the voice. Singing 101 offers unique insight into how to practice and what is most likely to work for your voice! Establish goals to build strength and confidence into your voice! Learn how to warm-up your voice and learn some of the best scales to do it!

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn a brief history of vocal technique (classical to modern)

  • Consider and lay-out your musical and vocal dreams

  • Define a musical instrument and be able to describe the voice as one

  • Learn the staples of vocal technique

  • Understand your voice and what you need to do to strengthen it!

  • Get familiarized with the terminology to be used throughout the course

  • Cultivate vocal goals to include in your vocal practice

  • Choose your voice type

  • Learn a vocal warm-up


Week 2: Building Stamina:

January 15th at 7pm –Produce a strong and versatile voice through breath work!

Class Description:

Learn how to manage and control your breath while singing. Sing for longer and gain control over your voice without exhausting yourself or experiencing vocal drain-out! In this class, you will understand breath control and how to use it! This class provides an understanding of the key elements that helps trained singers use their breath masterfully to benefit the style and health of their voices.

Learning Objective:

  • Sing without getting tired

  • Increase sustains and improve dynamics

  • Learn the basics of the respiratory system and how singers gain control over air

  • Learn how to use the controllable elements of breath; flow and pressure

  • Explore how breath can change your style and tone

  • Understand how breath can improve the health and stamina of your voice


Week 3: Extending Range

January 22nd at 7pm - Get to know the registers and how to use them to for your biggest and fullest vocal range!

Class Description:

Have you ever wished you could sing higher? Do you feel like your voice has a ceiling that you just can’t breach? Perhaps you feel like half of your range is somehow missing, or weak? These are very common experiences even amongst professional singers. This class will help you understand what might be holding you back from gaining control over your FULL range. Learn about the registers and how to use and strengthen them. Balance your voice and make each and every note count! Without cracking, squeaking or loosing your voice!

Learning Objective:

  • Sing using your FULL Range

  • Strengthen weak areas of your range

  • Learn the basics of the anatomy of the larynx

  • Learn how to use and understand the controllable element of range; vocal weight (or the chest, head and mixed voices)

  • Explore how to use your range to express yourself creatively

  • Understand how control over your range and registers can contribute to vocal health and longevity


Week 4: Developing Tone

January 29th at 7pm: Create a gorgeous and healthy voice through vowel work!

Class Description: 

Have you ever wondered why some voices just sound…better than others? What makes a voice sound good? The answer is tone and timbre. Singers with excellent control over their tone will be able to create gorgeous, full and rich sounds. In this class you will learn how vowel shaping can help you create the voice of your dreams. Learn about the benefits and drawbacks of common vowels and how you can use them to serve the style, health  and stability of your voice

Learning Objective:

  • Create beautiful and versatile vocal tone

  • Define and gain the ability to adjust tone and timbre

  • Learn the basic anatomy of the resonators and articulators

  • An introductory understanding of the phonetic vowel chart

  • Define and produce open vs. closed vowels AND front vs. back vowels

  • Learn how to incorporate flexible vowels the serve your range, your style, your tone AND the overall health of your voice


Week 5: Vocal Anxiety

February 5th at 7pm – Understand and overcome “stage” fright!

Class Description:

The term ‘stage fright’ most often refers to a fear of going on stage, but I have seen stage fright effect singers in their own space, without an audience in sight. We all have vocal anxieties that hold us back from doing what we love. Vocal anxiety can not only hinder a singer from the stage, but also from their expression and craft. This course will help you to unravel your own, personal vocal anxieties and give you the tools to overcome them.

Learning Objective:

  • Learn how vocal anxiety develops

  • Understand the meditative and calming effects of vocalizing

  • Understand the merits of “failure”

  • Build confidence in your voice through barrier breaking exercises

  • Identify physical tension as a result of vocal anxiety and release it!

  • Understand how your vocal anxiety is impacting your voice and how to free it!


Week 6: Creative Expression

February 12th at 7pm – Develop vocal freedom and your sense of melody, rhythm and musicality through improvisation and exploration!

Class Description:

Let it all go during this fun and exploratory class! Learn how to express yourself creatively and freely through melody and rhythm. Improvise new songs from scratch or simply re-phrase a line of a well known tune. Whatever your comfort level with singing, this course will provide you with the tools you need to feel at ease in your own voice! Build confidence and let off some steam! 

Learning Objective:

  • Build confidence in your voice

  • Free your voice and your ear!

  • Learn the roots of musical improvisation in popular styles

  • Understand how melody plays within a song and how you can change it easily and confidently

  • Find your sense of groove and rhythm to play with phrasing and syncopation

Week 7: Find Your Voice

February 19th at 7pm – Explore your voice and delve into the world of personal vocal style!

Class Description:

What does it mean to ‘find’ you voice? Finding your voice is not like hunting for buried treasure, it is more like an expedition to explore unmarked territory! It is an adventure! While on your journey to find your voice you will try new things and discover hidden parts of yourself that you didn’t know existed. You will explore what your inspirations are and what you want out of your voice. You will play with breath, range and tone to cultivate new sounds! You will decide what you like, what you don’t like and what defines ‘your voice’. This class offers a guided exploration through your own voice and what it is now, and what it can become.

Learning Objective:

  • Understanding how the greats built and cultivated their voices

  • Establish your singing idols and the quality of their voices you love

  • Identify your voice and style goals, both big and small!

  • Get insight on what work you need to do to reach your voice goals

  • Build a vocal practice to help you reach your goals

Week 8: FINAL PERFORMANCE

February 26th – Live Zoom performance AND wrapping up the course with an overview and open forum.

Class Description:

Available to Full Course Package students only. LIVE Zoom performance for the class! Record it your self or use the class recording on your socials or to share with family and friends. This final class will be open forum style to discuss what you learned. You will have the opportunity to share your thoughts and ask any left-over unanswered questions!
